Waikato Rugby Union has announced their Men’s and Women’s sevens teams for this weekend’s TECT National Sevens at Tauranga Domain (December 15/16).
Both the Waikato Men’s and Women’s finished runners up at the recent Northern Regional Sevens tournament at Memorial Park in Cambridge only two weeks ago.
The Waikato Men will be looking for back to back titles after being crowned national champions at the last National tournament, after defeating Tasman in the final. While the Women will be looking to go one step further after finishing runners up to Manawatu at the same tournament at Rotorua International Stadium in January.
The tournament has recently had venue and date change, moving from Rotorua to Tauranga and from mid January to mid December.
Waikato Men’s will continue to be captained by reigning National Sevens Player of the tournament Jordan Bunce. The team has been drawn in Pool B and will face Southland (10.45am), Otago (1.35pm) and Auckland (3.55pm) on day one of the tournament.
Waikato Women will continued to be captained by Blacks Ferns Sevens player Huia Harding and have been drawn in Pool C to face Tasman (10.05am), Hawkes Bay (12.45pm) and Bay of Plenty (3.55pm) on day one of the tournament
The TECT National Seven’s tournament kicks off at 10.05am from Tauranga Domain, Tauranga on Saturday 15 December.
