Waikato Rugby is pleased to announce the re-signing of another exciting young talent, Samipeni Finau, after he extended his contract with the province for a further three NPC seasons to 2024.

Finau, 22, made his provincial debut in 2019 at Blindside Flanker against Auckland and is Waikato Cap #1209. In 2019 Finau played a total of 5 matches for Waikato, then in 2020, he was a regular starter playing all 11 matches during that campaign. Since his debut, Finau has played a total of 16 matches for Waikato and is in line this season to play his blazer game.

Waikato Chief Executive Officer, Carl Moon, said, “Waikato Rugby are very pleased to retain a young man with massive potential like Samipeni in our region where he will play for Waikato and the Chiefs for at least the next two years.  Samipeni is a no-nonsense hard-working player who is highly competitive – Traits we are constantly looking to identify and develop through our programs.  We are very much looking forward to Samipeni making his mark on NZ rugby while wearing red, yellow, and black.”
