Waikato Rugby Union are pleased to announce the signing of two key forwards in the form of Hamilton Marist and Brumbies duo, Sefo Kautai and James Tucker for the upcoming Bunnings Warehouse NPC.
Kautai, 24, first made his Waikato debut in a Ranfurly Shield defence against King Country in 2016. He has gone on to make 40 appearances for Waikato on top of playing Super Rugby for both the Gallagher Chiefs and most recently the Brumbies.
Tucker, 26, has played a total of 42 games for the province, after making his debut back in 2015 against Tasman as a replacement. Tucker has scored a total six tries, a total of 30 points to date. Like Kautai, Tucker, has also made appearances for the Gallagher Chiefs and Brumbies in Super Rugby.
Waikato Head Coach Ross Filipo said, “We are fortunate to secure the services of both Sefo and James for this season.
Sefo has worked hard on his scrummaging over the last few seasons and earlier this year was rewarded by being called into the Brumbies for both their Super Rugby Australia and Trans-Tasman campaigns.
James continues to be a competitive man and his tight game is at a high standard. He is a versatile player that can play lock and in the loose forwards, plus he has an incredible work rate around the park.
Both players have experience and leadership qualities that will be key in our success in 2021 and hopefully both will be able to reach that 50-game milestone later this season.”
Sefo Kautai is Waikato Cap #1168 and James Tucker is Waikato Cap #1148. Both players have a chance this season to reach the 50-game milestone for Waikato.
